Below are options for Dave to get started in reloading.
-
Case Trimmer (you can wait on this - rifle only)
-
Scale (Digital is better IMO)
-
Tumbling (cleaning)
-
Hand Primer tool $59 - Optional with LNL since it primes on the press
You can probably find this cheaper at cabelas or someplace. If you're not going to be home until December, maybe look for black Friday sales. You will get 500 free bullets with their rebate, so that's cool.
This press is awesome for beginners or pros, it's modular enough to load one station at a time, or all five. The press can also grow with you; you can choose to add a case feed and bullet feed as you get more comfortable.
Shell plates are kind of a bummer, but there isn't any other way for Hornady to do it so you can't really blame them too much. They're about $30/each
Like I said, you can add a case feeder and bullet feeder but you dont need them. If you're itching to speed things up, they have a bullet feed die and tube so you can get a taste of it without investing $250 for a bullet feeder.
If you decide against the Chargemaster and want to throw powder off of the press, you can get a table top powder measure by Hornady or RCBS
Personally, I like Hornady because they're only a few more dollars than lee but better quality. I always get a Lee Factory crimp die for my semi-auto rounds and pistol rounds - this makes sure there is proper neck tension and removes any flair that was added before seating the bullet. You can crimp with Hornady and other dies, but it's in combination with seating the bullet and I just dont like that.
