mbf-util -- Bitmap font utilities ================================= This is a set of command-line tools intended to make it easy to handle bitmap fonts in the MBF format. It is possible to convert fonts from the popular BDF format into MBF fonts using the bdf2mbf program. ``` $ bdf2mbf font.bdf font.mbf ``` The mbfinfo program outputs basic information about an MBF file. ``` $ mbfinfo font.mbf chars 191 width 6 height 11 ``` Two other converters can be used to edit glyphs as plain text: ``` $ mbf2fnt font-6x11.mbf # extract glyphs to a new folder "6x11" $ $EDITOR 6x11/U+0026 # edit ampersand glyph as plain text $ fnt2mbf 6x11 font-6x11.mbf # rewrite MBF file with new design $ rm -rf 6x11 # remove plain text glyphs when done ``` The helper script fntstr can be used to check the plain-text design at any time. ``` $ fntstr 6x11 'foo & bar' XX X X XX X X X X X XXX XXX XXX X X X XX XXX X XX X X X X X X XX X X XX X X X X X X X X X X X XXXX X X X X X X X X X X X X X X XXX XXX XX X XXXX XXXX X ``` Finally, to see a single glyph from an MBF file as plain text, the mbfchr program can be used. ``` $ mbfchr font.mbf 0x26 ## # # # # # # # # # # ## # ``` Copying ------- All of the source code and documentation for mbf-util is released into the public domain and provided without warranty of any kind.
