This is a simple program that displays Quake 3 BSP maps.
Almost everything here was based off the file format specifications found online here and here rather than the source code.
Ensure that the following packages and their development files are installed properly:
- GNU GCC C++ and GNU Make on Linux
- MinGW or Visual Studio C++ on Windows
- CMake
- SFML
- PhysicsFS
- GLEW
- GLM
On Ubuntu they can all be installed using:
sudo apt install g++ cmake libsfml-dev libphysfs-dev libglew-dev libglm-dev
On Windows you can make a folder called libs/
and place downloaded dependencies there. There are no official builds for PhysicsFS and may require building before hand.
To build use the following commands:
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make
Alternatively, you could use QtCreator to open up CMakeLists.txt to compile the code.
To use you will need an install of Quake 3 and the location of its data folder q3base
. On Steam this can typically be found in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Quake 3 Arena\baseq3\
.
A list of availible maps can be shown using: bspviewer /path/to/baseq3/
To load a map use: bspviewer /path/to/baseq3/ /maps/q3ctf1.bsp
- Mouse movement for looking
- WASD for directional movement
- Space to move up
- Shift to move down
- E to toggle collision
- Escape to quit
