Is that any good? is my attempt at recreating Yelp.
You may sign up using your email, Facebook, or Twitter account (using Omniauth)! You may also sign in with these credentials or your username. Don’t forget to upload a photo of your awesome self (unless you like the default happy cat photo!).
When you hit a city’s index page, you will see the top rated places for that city, as well as the most recent reviews. Recent reviews are updated in real-time using the Pusher API, so whenever another user writes a review for a place in that city, it will automatically be prepended to the list (only reviews for that city are shown).
The search bar in the top nav uses pg-search to look through the ITAG database. It will first try to match a category, which would bring up search results with places tagged with that, and then try to find places with names that match the query (‘japanese’ vs ‘per se’).
Just had dinner at this awesome place? Ready to write a review? Awesome. Just find the place you’re looking for (or add it yourself!) and hit that review button. I used a little JQuery and Rails UJS to let all the magic happen on the page.
