Human, father, geek, software developer, software architect, author of books.
My name is Moritz Lenz. I was born in 1984, and studied physics from 2004 to 2009, and finished with a Master with Honours from Heriot Watt University and a German "Diplom" from Universität Würzburg.
Since 2012 I am a professional software engineer, and later adopted further responsibilities like software architecture, and training and enabling other developers.
Occasionally I present at conferences, company and community workshops and meetups and the likes.
I have been intermittently blogging since 2008, and started writing technical books in 2016.
Since about 2005 I have contributed to various Open Source projects, mostly around the Perl and Raku programming languages.
- Perl 6 Fundamentals, A Primer with Examples, Projects, and Case Studies, 2017, Apress Media. A new edition as Raku Fundamentals is being prepared.
- Parsing with Perl 6 Regexes and Grammars, A Recursive Descent into Parsing, 2017, Apress Media
- Python Continuous Integration and Delivery, A Concise Guide with Examples, 2019, Apress Media
- Pragmatic Debian Packaging, 2018-2020, Leanpub
- (German) Wie geschmiert, Continuous Delivery in traditionellen Infrastrukturen, iX, 2017-01
- (German) Mittendrin, Perl 6 als stabile Version verfügbar, iX, 2016-03
- (German) Perl-Tutorial III: reguläre Ausdrücke und Grammatiken, iX, 2009-06
- (German) Auf der Rolle Perl-Tutorial II: Objektsystem, iX, 2009-05
- (German) Antifaltenkur Zum aktuellen Stand von Perl 6, iX, 2009-04
I testified as an expert in front of a part of the German federal parliament on Open Source and interoperability (press coverage in German).
Besides my interest in programming, Open Source, Software Engineering and Software Architecture, I pursue some other interests with varying degrees of enthusiasm and time commitment:
- Table Tennis since around 2005 (with a two-year pause starting 2014), currently at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, previously at TV 1848 Erlangen and TSV 1877 e.V. Gerbrunn
- I am low-key enthusiastic about cooking and baking. See my recipe collection (German).
- I play the Tau Station text-based MMORPG, and have contributed some community works such as the Tau Guide and tracker for in-game data.
- I follow spaceflight and astronomy from a distance, watch live-streamed rocket launches and the like.
- I am interested in Scientific skepticism.
