[update] Now you can do this in Blender too osm2blender - https://github.com/mkagenius/osm2blender
- Get the .OSM file from http://openstreetmap.org/ (Search > Export) [free]
- Copy and paste the script osm2maya.py in the Script Editor of Maya [free, if student]
- Select all the script code and click on (>) Run symbol above the console or Ctrl+Enter
