Parallel MySQL dumping tool.

Operation

MySQLRipper invokes mysqldump to dump tables from a database. It runs multiple dumps in parallel to maximize available resources. Tables are dumped from the largest to smallest.

System Requirements

You'll need the Python development library as well as MySQL installed.

Example on Ubuntu:

sudo apt install python3.7-dev

Setup

For running only you can run:

python -m pip install -r run-requirements.txt

For development use the requirements.txt file.

Invocation

python -m mysqlripper --help

--pipe-to

Instead of writing to a file with --output-prefix you can pipe the SQL dump to another command. Use this to chain to a compression program, such as gzip.

--pipe-to 'gzip > /tmp/${OBJECT_NAME}.sql.gz'

The variable OBJECT_NAME will be defined for the shell based on what is being export, a schema, or a table.

The pipe-to string is appended to the dump command and then executed in a shell.

--type

The type determines how the DB will be locked during the dump:

none: No setup/teardown will be performed.
master: The tables will be flushed and read lock acquired. The tables are unlocked post-processing.
slave: The slave will be stopped before processing and started once complete.

The cleanup will be performed even in the case of dump failure.
