About

MovieKit is a python package that includes the class MovieDiary to store the movies you've watched in a pandas dataframe and in a csv-file. Furthermore, it includes information about this movie like a personal evaluation, where you've watched it and the category (e.g. cinema, netflix, etc.).

Installation and usage

Import the class:

from MovieKit import MovieDiary

Instantiate an object and create diary:

diary = MovieDiary()
diary.create_diary()

Add a movie:

diary.add_movie('Interstellar', 'At home', 'Blu Ray', 96)
diary.add_movie('Inglourious Basterds', 'At home', 'DVD', 92)

Take a look at the movies you watched over time and your rating:

diary.plot_top_movies_time()

Dependencies

MovieKit requires the following python libraries: matplotlib, pandas, seaborn.

Methods

The class MovieDiary has currently the following methods:

  • create_diary: Create an empty dataframe as movie diary as well as en empty csv file.
  • add_movie: Add a movie to an existing dataframe and csv file and provide detail information (location, category, evaluation).
  • delete_diary: Delete the existing csv-file. Not recommended.
  • plot_top_movies_time: Create a Seaborn Scatterplot with the 30 most watched movies over time. The category and the evaulation are also included in the scatterplot as hue and bubble-size.

The following methods are planned:

  • import_diary: To import csv files in the movie diary.
