The is a ruby gem that deals with dataURIs, which will encode and decode files with Base64.
I'm on my way of develope. Will write this after its more complete.
gem install dataUri_parser
then in your code
require 'dataUri_parser'
dataUriObj = DataUri.new(dataURI)
dataUriObj.decodeToFile('./target.jpg')
dataUri = DataUriParser.toDataUri('./output.jpg', 'image/jpg')
This returns a DataUri obj, use
dataUriObj.decodeToFile(target)
to output to file or do anything you want.
Note that the second param is the <mediatype> in dataURI
