How would this differ from the current explainST() functionality? Is it just that the hierarchical levels are called out explicitly before the definition? This should be possible since the parsing of formative elements is now aware of the hierarchy context

explainST generates reasonable fixed-width text output. I kind of like the retro look. I think that this was an idea on a more compact representation. Not a high priority, but a stub for a new grid graphics based output.

Could you add some context about that to the main post then? While the sketch is cool its not clear that it is a graphical output. #11 also references SVG output, so perhaps there is some overlap there?
