Note: This repo is useful in building AOSP repos from android 5.1 to android 8. If you need to build AOSP for android 5.1 please modify the Docker file by commenting java 8 lines and uncommenting java 7 lines.
Install docker from the link https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/ubuntu/
Run following command to add current user to docker group.
sudo usermod -a -G docker $(id -un)
Reboot computer for above command to take effect.
The above command removes the necessity for sudo when running docker command.
Clone this repo and enter teh repo in the terminal Copy your host gitconfig, or create a stripped down version
cp ~/.gitconfig gitconfig
Build docker image
docker build --build-arg userid=$(id -u) --build-arg groupid=$(id -g) --build-arg username=$(id -un) -t android-build-trusty .
Create docker container from the image generated from above command
docker run --name android-build --dns 8.8.8.8 -v <host computer AOSP repos path>:/home/$(id -un)/repos android-build-trusty &
This docker file creates a user in the image with the same details of user of host computer when built. Set password for the created user in the root shell. To get root shell of the docker container, please use following command
docker exec -it android-build bash
You can get the user shell of running container with the following to start your build
docker exec -it -u $(id -u):$(id -g) android-build bash
