Dictionaries

Download Hunspell or Myspell dictionaries.

Some URLs:

Unzip the content, so you get *.dic and *.aff files.

Usually if you use LibreOffice or OpenOffice with installed dictionaries, that will do too.

Mac users

Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) embeds Hunspell for its native Spellchecking service, but the plug-in doesn't use the installed dictionaries.

Usually hunspell dictionaries lands at:

  • /Library/Spelling
  • /Users/xxxxxx/Library/Spelling

Note: if you add dictionaries in these folders, they appear in the list shown in the panel of the "text & language" preferences.

Linux users

Linux users should install dictionaries from package.

For Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install hunspell-en-us

Usually hunspell dictionaries lands at: /usr/share/myspell/dict/

Setup (per workspace)

  • Navigate to : Preferences - General - Editors > TextEditors - Spelling
  • Select Hunspell4Eclipse
  • Browse... and select a dictionary(*.dic) file
  • Set the other parameters
  • Done.
