Neuroimaging tutorials and resources: A list of tutorials and other resources useful to learn open science and neuroimaging

LearnNeuroimaging

Project lead:
Alexandre Routier (@alexandreroutier)
(We may have a co-lead. To be confirmed.)

Timezone:
UTC+2
(Paris, France)

Hub:
Europe, Middle East and Africa
(Coud be extended to other hub. If you are interested, please contact me ASAP on Mattermost (@alexandre.routier) so that I can think to a way to organize the hackathon)

Description:
The purpose of this project is to gather courses, software and any resources that can help any newcomer (e.g. neuroscientist, computer scientist). In other words, if you wonder Where can I find a good: Tutorial on X? Software to do Y?, we hope that this project will answer your question.

We use all-contributors specification and we have a contribution guide that can evolve during the Hackathon.

We have currently a project board (https://github.com/learn-neuroimaging/tutorials-and-resources/projects/1).

Goals for the OHBM Brainhack
A previous Hackathon in April (via BrainWeb) lead to a new Website (https://learn-neuroimaging.github.io/tutorials-and-resources/) with a proposition of guide.

Improvements regarding its content and missing sections will be planned during this 3-day hackathon. Automatic update of the website when new content is added will be also planned. Currently, website is presented as a guide. If we have geeky contributors, we can investigate how to render the website as a database so that any new user can easily search information through keywords.

Depending on the role assignment, around 5 participants would be comfortable to accelerate this project.

Good first issues:

  • Add new content (e.g. new MEG Software, new Statistics course) using pre-filled GitHub Issues or Pull Requests.
  • Review content of the current website and/or new contribution via Pull Request
  • Convert pages following "old" template (like MRI Software) to "new" template (like Data repositories)
  • Automatically update the website when new content is merged into GitHub

Skills:

  • A certain love for lists and data curation.
  • Review content though website and/or Pull Request.
  • Minimal knowledge of Markdown.
  • Minimal knowledge of Git / GitHub will be very appreciated. It is a good opportunity to follow the Git / GitHub course that will be done on the first day

Project submission

Submission checklist

Once the issue is submitted, please check items in this list as you add under 'Additional project info'

Please include the following above (all required):

  • Link to your project
  • Include your Mattermost handle (i.e. your username).
  • Goals for the OHBM Brainhack: describe what you want to achieve during this brainhack.
  • Flesh out at least 2 "good first issues": those are tasks that do not require any prior knowledge about your project, could be defined as issues in a GitHub repository, or in a shared document, cf here.
  • Skills: list skills that would be particularly suitable for your project. We ask you to include at least one non-coding skill, cf. here.
  • Chat channel: https://mattermost.brainhack.org/brainhack/channels/tutorial-and-resources
  • Video channel

You can also include information about (all optional):

  • Number of participants, cf. here
  • Twitter-size summary of your project pitch: Done By @ufangYang
  • Provide an image of your project for the OHBM brainhack website
  • Set up a kanban board on your repository to better divide the work and keep track of things, cf here
  • Project snippet for the OHBM Brainhack website, cf. here

We would like to think about how you will credit and onboard new members to your project. We recommend reading references from this section. If you'd like to share your thoughts with future project participants, you can include information about (recommended):

  • Specify how will you acknowledge contributions (e.g. listing members on a contributing page).
  • Provide links to onboarding documents if you have some.

I just updated the Mattermost channel and the GitHub issue to add a Jitsi link.

Thanks @alexandreroutier . I removed the link from the comment and issue to avoid unexpected events in the video channel ๐Ÿ˜‰ !

Indeed ๐Ÿ˜ณ Thanks!

Dear @alexandreroutier would you mind writing several goals and a couple of issues for your project that you think would help the Brainhack participants? Once you are done that we will complete the review asap! Thank you very much ๐Ÿค—
