docker-nginx-rtmp
A Dockerfile installing NGINX, nginx-rtmp-module and FFmpeg from source with default settings for HLS live streaming. Built on Alpine Linux.
- Nginx 1.16.1 (Stable version compiled from source)
- nginx-rtmp-module 1.2.1 (compiled from source)
- ffmpeg 4.2.1 (compiled from source)
- Default HLS settings (See: nginx.conf)
Usage
Server
- Build and run container from source:
docker build -t ooftv-nginx-rtmp .
docker run -it -p 1935:1935 -p 8080:80 --rm ooftv-nginx-rtmp
or to use local files:
docker run -p 8080:80 -p 1935:1935 -v /var/log/ooftv-docker:/var/log -v /var/www/html:/usr/local/nginx/html -d --name ooftv ooftv-nginx-rtmp
with ssl
docker run -p 8080:80 -p 443:443 -p 1935:1935 -v /var/log/ooftv-docker:/var/log -v /var/www/html:/usr/local/nginx/html -v /etc/letsencrypt:/opt/certs -d --name ooftv ooftv-nginx-rtmp
(note, You may need to update local storage locations in the docker-compose.yml, or create the paths it expects) Current preferred method for running this image:
docker run -p 8080:80 -p 443:443 -p 1935:1935 -v /home/ooftv/Documents/github/ooftv-docker-nginx-rtmp/nginx.conf:/etc/nginx/nginx.conf:ro -v /var/log/ooftv-docker:/var/log -v /var/www/html:/usr/local/nginx/html -v /etc/letsencrypt:/opt/certs -d --name ooftv ooftv-nginx-rtmp
however, ports and volumes should be set up in docker-compose.yaml (Still need to do that)

if you made changes to the docker image and need to rebuild it: docker stop ooftv (unless you named it something else, find out with docker ps) then: docker build -t ooftv-nginx-rtmp . then run it again with the above docker run command

Stream live content to:
rtmp://<server ip>:1935/stream/$STREAM_NAME
SSL
To enable SSL, see nginx.conf and uncomment the lines:
listen 443 ssl;
ssl_certificate /opt/certs/example.com.crt;
ssl_certificate_key /opt/certs/example.com.key;
This will enable HTTPS using a self-signed certificate supplied in /certs. If you wish to use HTTPS, it is highly recommended to obtain your own certificates and update the ssl_certificate
and ssl_certificate_key
paths.
I recommend using Certbot from Let's Encrypt.

- In Safari, VLC or any HLS player, open:
http://<server ip>:8080/live/$STREAM_NAME.m3u8

AWSTATS
Configure AWSTATS
Don't forget to configure nginx's logrotate:
vim /etc/logrotate.d/nginx
you'll need to set it to the right path for the logs
Then test it
sudo logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.d/nginx
