I'm using coord_map() instead of coord_equal() to select a segment of a map. Do you know any way to use ggsn with it?.

Hi,
For the scale bar, I suggest you to try the arguments x.min, x.max, y.min and y.max in scalebar (without using data) to "reset the bounding box" of the plotted segment. For the north symbol, you can use north2.
