Basic information

This repository is an example on how to build cloud-init enabled NixOS VM images for Proxmox. Booting using both UEFI and BIOS is supported, along with different disk partition options.

How to use it

Build images:

nix build .#

Upload images (VMID 950-955):

result/upload.sh proxmox.example.com 950 local-zfs

or DANGEROUS:

result/upload.sh proxmox.example.com 950 local-zfs --force

Configure and run terraform:

cd terraform
cp terraform.tfvars.example terraform.tfvars
nano terraform.tfvars (1)
terraform init
terraform apply (2)

  1. Add template_id_…​ variables if templates are not in the default 950-955 interval.

  2. It may be necessary to run it multiple times, Proxmox can timeout trying to get lock to access ZFS when cloning multiple VMs.

After terraform apply following outputs should contain basic information about VM cloned from each template:

  • bios-grub

  • bios-grub-gpt

  • bios-hybrid-grub

  • efi-grub

  • efi-hybrid-grub

  • efi-systemd-boot

It works as a basic image check. Cloned VMs must have been successfully configured using cloud-init and have network access for terraform provisioning for terraform output to contain anyting.
