@ThatLionLady I have added the initial paper on the add-paper branch. Will you please add to the "Statement of Need" section?
To access the paper use Git to pull the latest on the branch via git pull origin add-paper, then checkout the new branch git checkout add-paper, make any edits then use the usual git add ..., git commit -m "...", git push origin add-paper (to get back to the master branch use git checkout master).
Let me know if you have any difficulties wrangling with Git to make these edits.

It is possible before submission that the Summary and Statement of Need will become one section, but for clear bounds of software and semantics I have them separated for now.
@ThatLionLady I made a couple minor edits to the paper.md and paper.bib. I was confused by the example you gave saying:
...(e.g., rXY only of a subset of the population)...
Is the format ""rXY" one I should be familiar with?
