OnlineCPS
Online CPS (Candidate Plan of Study) is set out to capture the current manual process of CPS and make it as online process. CPS is a worksheet which is prepared upon the student acceptance into the degree program. This worksheet includes Student’s core courses, electives, foundation courses, and transfer courses. There are four actors that are involved in this CPS process: Student, Faculty Advisor, Academic Advisor and Academic Rules Committee. A Student is a person who is considered as admitted or currently studying in a degree program. A Faculty Advisor is a teaching faculty of a degree program who will be assigned to the student after official admission into a degree program. An Academic Advisor who is responsible in analyzing transcripts, assigning Students to Faculty Advisor and help them in preparing degree and certification requirements. An Academic Rules Committee is responsible in generating academic rules once in a year. These rules include core requirements, electives, total number of credit hours, and foundation courses for each major. The current process that we have is manual i.e., Once the student got enrolled into the degree program, the Initial Draft CPS will be generated by Academic Advisor. This Initial Draft CPS includes all the basic details of the Student such as Student ID, Name, Degree, Major, Foundation Courses (If any) and Core Requirements. Once the Initial Draft CPS was generated, the corresponding Students CPS will be sent to the Faculty Advisor and mails will be sent to the students asking them to make an appointment with the Faculty Advisor for modifying the CPS. Once student have an appointment, the Faculty Advisor updates the CPS and generates a Draft CPS. Upon successfully generating the Draft CPS, the Academic Advisor will be notified. Then the Academic Advisor checks with the Academic Rules, transcripts and then generates the Final CPS by approving the Draft CPS. To make this process online we are going to build a web application which helps in performing all the tasks (mentioned above) online. By using this Online CPS, the Student can perform various tasks which include: Viewing the CPS, Modifying the CPS, scheduling an appointment with Faculty Advisor, and print the Final CPS. The Faculty Advisor can view the Student’s CPS, Check with Academic Rules, Manage Appointments, Generate Draft CPS, and can print the CPS. The Academic Advisor can Assign Students’ to Faculty Advisor, view the Student’s Draft CPS, Check with Academic Rules, Generate Final CPS and can print the CPS. The Academic Rules Committee can view and update the academic rules.
