Hazardous Environmental Events

• Inspired by the iWitness Pollution Map http://map.labucketbrigade.org
• Open source mapping
• Fundamentally a citizen’s reporting tool of events such as illegal waste disposal, air pollution events, water contamination, chemical accidents/smells, flaring, explosions and fires at industry facilities, pipeline leaks, natural disasters etc.
• The map will start with Houston, but with the potential scalability of Texas and to all of the United States.
• This tool will have a website and app.
• It will source social media postings for news events. Modeled after Live Universal Awareness Map: https://syria.liveuamap.com/. With news updates to the map such as facebook live videos, instagram photos, and tweets.
• There will be icons on the map that reflect different types of events. Rollover effect will open up sidebar with tweet, video, posted photo etc.
• All reports will have a filtering system in place to avoid irrelevant content being posted.
