Can we drop Python 2 support?

Based on https://www.activestate.com/blog/ubuntu-to-end-python-2-support/ I would assume that Python 2 support on various Linux distributions is going to be End of Life by mid 2024.

Does anyone need it?

Since GitHub Actions dropped support for Python 2, #208 was merged, and to keep our maintenance effort in check, Python 2 is now not supported anymore. Sorry...
