Please assist how to build project and use it

Building is straight forward, just load the solution file in Visual Studio (be sure you have Wix and Votive installed), and click "Build Solution" (F6). There's no other steps needed.

Hi,
I've installed VS2019 community edition on my windows 10.
PdfScribeInstall is showing as incompatible and PdfScribeInstallCustomAction as unloaded in Solutions Expplorer.

Please assist.
I'm able to build PdfScribe project and it generates executable ~\PdfScribe\PdfScribe\bin\Debug directory but not sure how to use it.

I have no idea if there's an issue with compiling it with VS 2019 - the latest release was developed with 2017; usually VS is pretty good with importing older versions, but I can't say if 2019 works or not as I haven't tried it. You need to have Wix and Votive installed (last time I checked there wasn't a VS 2019 specific version yet, but there may be one by now). If you just want to use it, it's easier to just download the installer from the releases page.

Can you please guide/suggest what I have to do with PdfScribe.exe generated in ~\PdfScribe\PdfScribe\bin\Debug directory ?

Hi,
After installing Votive installer for VS2019 the PdfScribeInstallCustomAction project is now showing properly in VS2019 (earlier it was showing as unloaded).
But still PdfScribeInstall project is showing as incompatible in VS2019 , is it because of VS2019 ?

Please suggest/guide.

I have no idea - I've never tried with 2019 - right now you're pretty much on your own if you want to use VS 2019

Ok Fine. I'll try to compile using VS2017.
Meanwhile please explain how to use/operate PdfScribe.exe (generated using VS2019) ?
Because PdfScribe option is not showing under printing options of word/pdf document.
Am I missing something ?
Help/assistance would be much appreciated.

It needs to be installed by the MSI package. The exe by itself doesn't do much. Just download the installer if you just want to use it quickly - there's no need to build it yourself. If you're using Windows 10, you don't even really need it- Win 10 has a MS supplied PDF printer.

I am aware and understand that I can directly use installer and even windows provide pdf printer functionality but I need to understand how pdf printer works(developer perspective) so that I can use it for my project which involves this activity.'

I would really appreciate if you can guide me from building the solution and using it as pdf printer.

Hi,
If you don't mind can you explain how to create msi package which contains Pdfscribe.exe ?
Suppose I modify the code and generate Pdfscribe.exe , now how to bundle in msi and create installer ?

Hi,
Thanks for bearing with my trivial questions, I really appreciate your help and guidance.

Actually my requirement is to create a program which should appear as printer options and when this option is selected the data to be printed is pushed to one of the usb ports. The other side of usb port is connected to some target device which has thermal printer which can be used to print text or file.

The PdfScribeInstall project is the one that compiles the MSI package. It's a Wix project. Once you have the solution building correctly, it's all there. If you're not familiar with Wix, I would recommend this book - it's for an older version, but still mostly relevant: https://www.packtpub.com/application-development/wix-36-developers-guide-windows-installer-xml

Hi stchan,
I'm successfully able to build the solution using VS2017 community edition on windows 10 platform.
I've installed wix and Votive2017 installer for VS2017.
Can you elaborate the steps for compiling the MSI package ?

Building the PdfScribeInstall project will build the MSI package. On Tue, Jul 23, 2019 at 2:19 AM shashankSkydale notifications@github.com wrote:
