Quantum is a lightweight 4x boardgame developed by Eric Zimmerman in 2013.
In Quantum, each player is a fleet commander from one of the four factions of humanity, struggling to conquer a sector of space. Every die is a starship, with the value of the die determining the movement of the ship, but also its combat power - with low numbers more powerful. So a [ 6 ] is a quick but fragile Scout and a [ 1 ] is a slow but mighty Battlestation.
Quantum: Community Edition is a passion project to expand and improve upon the original game. Our new cards and mechaics have been rigourously playtested over the last few years, revised many times to hit these goals:
- Balance Cards: No card should be strictly better in all cases.
- Increase 'Faction Ownership': Ensure they player feels like their faction their build feels unique. We do this by removing repetitive cards and introducing new abilities.
- Streamline Rules and Language: The original game lacked consistent langugae in it's rules.
- Encourage Player Interaction: Try to introduce mechanics that allow players to interact beyond just combat.
- Encourage Closer Games.: Reduce 'blow-outs' and unwinnable games when possible.
- Reduce unfun RNG: Bad RNG removes tension and planning.
- Reduce 'Bad Feeling' Moments: When we can, we raise the player up instead of taking other's down
We've added some new rules and mechanics to keep the game fresh and streamlined.
- New Expansion Mechanic
- Starting Skill
- Top Deck peeking to reduce stale draws
- New Missile Tokens to control combat RNG
Card abilities are the heart of Quantum, and we have created many new cards and balanced the existing ones.
- 16 new and 21 revised Skills
- 6 new and 3 revised Tactics
Coming soon.
