Replying to deep comments

So there was that idea to add a dummy reply button to deeply-nested comments that couldn't normally be replied to and the button would create a reply to the comment's parent and auto-@ the author of the comment you're actually replying to. BUT I'm nervous about that now that @-mentions send emails by default.

That’s a valid concern - although I think that if it’s obvious that the name appears in the comment, then the person can delete it if they want to. Perhaps the comment gets focused with the name (I.e. the whole comment) selected for easy deletion?
