Every time I stop w3m it says "Can't open history."
$ mkdir /tmp/e
$ HOME=/tmp/e w3m /tmp/
q
Do you want to exit w3m? (y/n) y
Can't open history
But we do see it created a directory there,
$ find /tmp/e -ls
524217 0 drwxr-xr-x 1 jidanni jidanni 8 Mar 1 21:15 /tmp/e
524218 0 drwx------ 1 jidanni jidanni 0 Mar 1 21:17 /tmp/e/.w3m
So why can't it also create its history file there too?
w3m version w3m/0.5.3+git20230121

The man page mentions environment variable W3M_DIR as what to set for
the location of w3m config files, including the history file.

It's a bug fixed by outstanding PR #276. You can work around it by
manually creating a (empty) history file.
