Simple example for exporting metrics to Prometheus from a Spring Boot app. We use the Prometheus java_client.
The configuration is contained with the MonitoringConfig class:

file.
There I set up a monitoring target for our Spring Boot app in the scrape_configs
config section.

Point your browser to http://prometheus.local:9090/targets and look for the list of target hosts. In this demo we configured prometheus itself as well as the spring boot app as targets.
Is the IP of your target host configured in /prometheus/prometheus.yml
file visible for the promotheus container?
You might need to create a container network or configure your firewall to allow the prometheus docker container to access your docker host. In case of the latter you could try
To allow traffic from interface docker0 to access the local dockerhost create the following IPTables rule:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -i docker0 -j ACCEPT
To remove the IPTables rule run this:
sudo iptables -D INPUT -i docker0 -j ACCEPT
