ThumbsOpeningScript

This is the page I put together at http://schnapple.com/thumbs/ for Idle Thumbs to automate the reading of the date and episode number. It grabs the latest episode number from the podcast RSS feed and increments it by one, and it displays the date in the format they usually read it in.

As per their request in Idle Thumbs 247, I have added the ability to have the date be the following Thursday so that if they record the show on Wednesday or prior it will have the date they intend to release it as. I've also added some formatting for phones (just the viewport size).

jQuery and jQuery UI are being pulled from a CDN. The CSS is inline. The select box is re-styled for iOS from some code I found on StackOverflow.

Future ideas include:

  • DONE Making it into an actual "script" with the names of people who should be saying what
  • DONE Adding everyone's name so the script can include introductions
  • Adding the ability to add guests
  • DONE Making list of participants re-arrangable, make script designate who says "I'm" vs "and I'm" (Nick last by default)
  • DONE Being able to flag who says the date and episode number (default to Jake and Chris)
  • Being able to change the date by +/- days
  • Being able to highlight a particular user (i.e., whoever is reading)

We can really make this hilariously elaborate if we want.
