This app demonstrates how to build a progressive web app with React JS and AWS Amplify and incorporating a microphone service to record speech and convert the same to text. It also shows the usage of bootstrap in react to make the SPA responsive.

Install node and npm. Create a React JS Project or clone this one.

Go to the root directory of project. Install AWS Amplify CLI
npm install -g @aws-amplify/cli amplify configure

Acquire AWS credentials and Access Key pair and then follow the steps on CLI -
Specify the AWS Region ? region: # Your preferred region Specify the username of the new IAM user: ? user name: # User name for Amplify IAM user Complete the user creation using the AWS console implementation 'com.amazonaws:aws-java-sdk-sns' Enter the access key of the newly created user: ? accessKeyId: # YOUR_ACCESS_KEY_ID ? secretAccessKey: # YOUR_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY This would update/create the AWS Profile in your local machine ? Profile Name: # (default) Successfully set up the new user.

Once your Amplify CLI is configured with AWS credentials, initialize the backend -
amplify init

Complete the activities on CLI to initialize the backend, and install following required libraries.
npm install aws-amplify @aws-amplify/ui-react npm install aws-amplify-react

Add these amplify dependencies -
amplify add auth // use default, add access to guest amplify add predictions // select to use the transcribe, speech to text amplify push

Install the microphone and other dependencies
npm install microphone-stream npm install --save bootstrap@latest npm install --save font-awesome

To make the application PWA (workable while offline) make changes in index.js-
// If you want your app to work offline and load faster, you can change // unregister() to register() below. Note this comes with some pitfalls. // Learn more about service workers: https://bit.ly/CRA-PWA serviceWorker.register();
This project was bootstrapped with Create React App.
In the project directory, you can run:
Runs the app in the development mode.
Open http://localhost:3000 to view it in the browser.
The page will reload if you make edits.
You will also see any lint errors in the console.
Launches the test runner in the interactive watch mode.

Builds the app for production to the build
folder.
It correctly bundles React in production mode and optimizes the build for the best performance.
The build is minified and the filenames include the hashes.
Your app is ready to be deployed!

Note: this is a one-way operation. Once you eject
, you can’t go back!
If you aren’t satisfied with the build tool and configuration choices, you can eject
at any time. This command will remove the single build dependency from your project.
Instead, it will copy all the configuration files and the transitive dependencies (webpack, Babel, ESLint, etc) right into your project so you have full control over them. All of the commands except eject
will still work, but they will point to the copied scripts so you can tweak them. At this point you’re on your own.
You don’t have to ever use eject
. The curated feature set is suitable for small and middle deployments, and you shouldn’t feel obligated to use this feature. However we understand that this tool wouldn’t be useful if you couldn’t customize it when you are ready for it.
