Fork of twitter/chill/chill-scala to build for both Scala 2.10 & 2.11

Primary LanguageJava

Chill now supports Scala 2.11. Please use it instead.

This is a fork of Twitter's Chill's chill-scala to build for both Scala 2.10 & 2.11. At this moment (Jul 5 2014), the original Chill doesn't support Scala 2.11.

Usage

In your SBT project:

libraryDependencies += "tv.cntt" %% "chill-scala" % "1.2"

Example:

import java.io.{ByteArrayInputStream, ByteArrayOutputStream}

import scala.util.control.NonFatal

import com.esotericsoftware.kryo.Kryo
import com.esotericsoftware.kryo.io.{Input, Output}
import com.twitter.chill.KryoSerializer

object SeriDeseri {
  private val kryo = {
    val a = KryoSerializer.registerAll
    val k = new Kryo
    a(k)
    k
  }

  def toBytes(any: Any): Array[Byte] = {
    val b = new ByteArrayOutputStream
    val o = new Output(b)
    kryo.writeObject(o, any)
    o.close()
    b.toByteArray
  }

  def fromBytes[T](bytes: Array[Byte])(implicit m: Manifest[T]): Option[T] = {
    val i = new Input(bytes)
    try {
      val t = kryo.readObject(i, m.runtimeClass.asInstanceOf[Class[T]])
      Option(t)
    } catch {
      case NonFatal(e) => None
    } finally {
      i.close()
    }
  }
}

Kryo is not threadsafe, you may want to use this code:

import scala.util.control.NonFatal
import com.twitter.chill.{KryoInstantiator, KryoPool, KryoSerializer}

object SeriDeseri {
  // Use this utility instead of using Kryo directly because Kryo is not threadsafe!
  // https://github.com/EsotericSoftware/kryo#threading
  private val kryoPool = {
    val r  = KryoSerializer.registerAll
    val ki = (new KryoInstantiator).withRegistrar(r)
    KryoPool.withByteArrayOutputStream(Runtime.getRuntime.availableProcessors * 2, ki)
  }

  def toBytes(any: Any): Array[Byte] = kryoPool.toBytesWithoutClass(any)

  def fromBytes[T](bytes: Array[Byte])(implicit m: Manifest[T]): Option[T] = {
    try {
      val t = kryoPool.fromBytes(bytes, m.runtimeClass.asInstanceOf[Class[T]])
      Option(t)
    } catch {
      case NonFatal(e) => None
    }
  }
}

Source code

Basically, the source code comes from Chill with minor modifications:
