Some kind of ID, also in the documentation, would be helpful for references to the document.

Do you mean one id per item or one id (something like a version) for the whole document?

Sorry, that wasn't clear. I meant per item.
This could also help to integrate the items into the given or an even more sophisticated hierarchy.

The document can be taken care by the usual github versioning

How about a simply X.Y.Z numbering? Do you think that would do?
