One of my colaborators wants to use gitter for managing all of her groups, I’d rather have a something that integrates with my local IM system, so an attempt and connecting to gitter.
I may not ever actually implement useful things like authentication. My target is to connect to a room, see whats in it and send messages.
By revision ac89b549d55583856c8fffe663fb9f289d3021a9 core things have started to work. Rooms currently show up in the contact list, you can connect to a room and while connected send & receive messages.
However I think the name used for received messages is just the room name, and not the person writing. (Probably because I didn’t implement this as a MUC)
Also it doesn’t currently download pending messages when you reconnect.
There’s probably some issues with that because of this bug https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23844 with the telepathy spec.
The next things to do are either implement downloading pending messages, or convert from using the 1-on-1 chat interface to using the MUC version of the telepathy spec.
