Error about ICA-AROMA.

Hi Maarten,
I came up with an error that may be related to the use of ICA-AROMA. ICA-AROMA worked well with most of the subjects. However, three participants couldn't finish the preprocessing.
I checked these data again and tried several times. It still couldn't work. There are many files named thr_zstat00**.nii.gz in the ICA-AROMA folder.

The errors were same as following:

An exception has been thrown
Logic error:- detected by Newmat: index error: requested index = 0

MatrixType = Rect # Rows = 1; # Cols = 3

All the analysis were carried in the same server, same command (just replace the name of the participant, like 001......380,381) as well as the same software.

Hi Xiao,

could you update to the latest version of the AROMA scripts. No fundamental changes, but the formatting is different. Upgrading will allow determining where the error is occurring.

Other than that: how many datapoints do you have? How many components did melodic return?

This is an error we haven't encountered before, and as you indicate it works fine for all but 3 datasets, i.e., it must be something dataset-specific. In this case, it seems to be related to the thresholding of the ICA components.
As an alternative you could try and run melodic outside of ICA-AROMA. If that works out (I suspect not, but the error message might be more useful), you could pass the melodic directory as an option to AROMA - no need to rerun a successful melodic run.

Thank you for your suggestion. Do you mean that I can run the melodic analysis without doing the ICA-AROMA?
I tried to run melodic for the three subjects after the FEAT (I used the files named filtered_func_data.nii.gz for each subjects).

There wasn't any error. After I ran melodic for the three subjects, there was a new folder with the name of ".gica" for further analysis (within it there is a folder named ".ica" includes some files, such as melodic_IC.nii.gz ). We also had a folder named "filtered_func_data_FEAT_3_putput.ica" in the main folder for each subject.

yes, it's the melodic data exploration you want. (Not the group ica!). You can now run AROMA with the -md option where you specify this .ica folder for each subject. AROMA will now run without running another melodic.

Thank you for your suggestion. However we still got many files end up with thr_zstat0001.nii.gz .....thr_zstat0054.nii.gz. There were 54, 83 and 83 files named with "thr_zstat00**.nii.gz" for each subject. Let's take the first for example:

Hmm, there are 81 components in the melodic_IC, but the log file stops after thresholding IC map 54... There must be something off with your datasets. Is their any chance you could provide me with the filtered_func_data.nii.gz file for this participant? (email removed)

we determined that the problem was related to an artefact in the input data that dominated the ensuing ICA decomposition. This issue is not related to ICA-AROMA.
