How to make the IMU dataset?

Hi!
I want to make the dataset from own imu sensor.
When I record the data, what should I do?
I should shake the sensor? or just put the sensor on the floor and then let it?
Could you give me some advice?

What I'm inquiring about is is there a requirement for orientation when stationary IMUs are in place? For example z-axis facing up?
