Basically, we need more than 1 observation per chr to make the density plots. See tidyverse/ggplot2#957

No longer need this safety check tidyverse/ggplot2#957 (comment). Although I'll leave the code as is (no reverting) at least until the CRAN version of ggplot2 gets updated.
